Man hacked to death in Kayunga, suspect arrested

Police in Kayunga district have arrested a man in connection with the murder of Rashid Macho, a resident of Kalagala village, Kangulumira town council. The attack occurred late at night on September 4, 2025.

According to Hellen Butoto, the Ssezibwa Regional Police spokesperson, the deceased was attacked while using the toilet at his home.

“Unknown assailants hid inside his latrine, ambushed him, and cut him twice on the right hand before fleeing,” she said.

The victim’s wife, Halima Namataka, raised the alarm after hearing the scuffle, prompting neighbours to rush to the scene. Macho was taken to Kangulumira Health Centre IV, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police preserved the body at the hospital for a post-mortem as investigations continue. One suspect, identified as Ivan Kitimbo, has been arrested to assist in the probe.

Butoto confirmed that a murder case has been registered, and detectives are pursuing additional suspects.

“The arrest is a breakthrough, but we are still gathering more evidence to establish the full circumstances surrounding this killing,” she said.
