_______________

The Court of Appeal is scheduled to conduct a three-day session to hear civil appeals and related applications in Fort Portal City.

The session, which will commence tomorrow, Tuesday, June 24, and run until Thursday, June 26, 2025, is expected to handle a total of 28 civil appeals along with three applications arising from some of those appeals.

A panel of three Justices, led by Deputy Chief Justice Dr Flavian Zeija, will preside over the session. Other Justices are Cheborion Barishaki and Esta Nambayo.

According to the cause list issued by the Court’s Registrar, Allen Rukundo Owembabazi, land-related cases constitute the majority of the matters to be handled during the session, with 18 appeals.

The Court will also hear four appeals involving breaches of contract. The remaining cases relate to loan disputes, claims for damages, fraud, and other property-related matters, including issues of rights to property and letters of administration, among others.

This session is part of the Court of Appeal’s broader strategy to enhance access to justice and reduce case backlog.

In line with this goal, the court started conducting upcountry sessions for civil appeals alongside criminal appeal sessions last year, bringing justice closer to the people and improving efficiency in the appellate process.

This will be the fourth upcountry Civil Session the Court has held since the initiative began.
