Kampala city suburb, Mengo-based Sanyu Babies Home has received a donation of assorted relief items.
The donation, including food items, sanitary materials, and essential medical supplies, was delivered on July 1, 2025, by water ministry officials.
The activity, according to the ministry, is among those lined up leading to Africa Public Service Day at the Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala.
Although the day is marked globally every June 23, each country is free to celebrate it on a date of its choice. Uganda will celebrate Africa Public Service Day on July 7.
Ministry undersecretary in charge of finance and administration Catherine Nassuna, who was representing permanent secretary Dr Alfred Okot Okidi, led the delegation to the babies' home.
While handing over the donations, Nassuna said Public Service Day is a crucial opportunity for the ministry to evaluate its service delivery standards.
She highlighted the importance of ensuring that government services reach the most vulnerable members of society, particularly children.
"We have come to make these children feel the environment, care, and compassion," she stated, adding that "these items improve the children's hygiene, sanitation, and general well-being."
Nassuna was accompanied by several ministry officials, including assistant human resource manager Godfrey Ezati, assistant commissioner for accounts department Grace Atebat, and principal HR officer Jackie Sandrah Ongom.
Sanyu Babies Home administrator Nalwanga Christine expressed profound gratitude to the ministry for their gesture of love, care, and compassion.
"Now that the Ministry of Water and Environment officials are here, our hope has been restored," she shared.
Before this visit, the ministry also participated in a soccer gala as part of the Africa Public Service Day celebrations, reaching the quarter-finals.
The ministry is expected to showcase its innovations and programmes during an exhibition focused on service delivery awareness and the implementation of the National Resistance Movement's Manifesto.
