The Gulu Grade One Magistrate, Mirriam Amoro, has further remanded Christopher Ojera, a former Kilak MP aspirant, to Gulu Central Prison until May 5, 2026.

Ojera is accused of fraudulently obtaining 13.4 million shillings from Monica Giriza, a businesswoman and owner of Karibu Eldoret Restaurant located in Kamdini town council, Oyam district.

He has been on remand since March 3, 2026.

The accused appeared in court for a mention of his case.

However, Magistrate Amoro informed him that the matter would be adjourned to May 5, 2026, due to the absence of the Chief Magistrate, Augustine Alule Koma, who is presiding over the case.

During his previous court appearance on April 2, 2026, the prosecution indicated that investigations were still incomplete, prompting the court to remand him until April 9, 2026.

With the latest adjournment, Ojera is expected to spend an additional 26 days in custody.

Court records show that on April 2, 2026, the court also ruled that Ojera could not be granted bail due to the significant amount of money involved in the case.

Ojera was initially arrested on March 1, 2026, at the Kamdini Police checkpoint in Oyam district after reportedly being on the run since July 2025.

He is charged with obtaining money by false pretence.

According to the prosecution, in June 2025, Ojera allegedly obtained sh13.4 million from Giriza after promising to secure her a contract to provide catering services for 650 participants attending a meeting organised by Operation Wealth Creation chief coordinator, Gen. Salim Saleh, at the Presidential Skilling Hub in Gulu District. Prosecutors allege that after receiving the money, he failed to deliver on the promise.

In earlier proceedings, Ojera pleaded not guilty to the charges and denied any involvement in the alleged fraud.

Following the court session, he was escorted back to Gulu Main Prison and is expected to reappear in court on May 5, 2026.
