Busoga bishop Prof. Grace Lubaale has commended the family of retired Supreme Court Judge Can. Faith Mwondha for their contribution towards the development of religion and education in Busoga.
Bishop Lubaale made the remarks while officiating at the opening of St Stephen Church and Maama Jehothe and E. Kalikwani Memorial Nursery and Primary school in Nakabango cell, Jinja northern division in Jinja city on December 28, 2025.
The projects were constructed by the family of Can. Faith Mwondha, in honour of their late parents, Jehothe and Erusaniya Kalikwani, for their contribution to Busoga.
The two projects sit on an eight-acre piece of land donated by the Kalikwani family at Nakabango cell, Jinja northern division in Jinja city, off the Jinja-Kamuli road.
Mwondha told the congregation that her father Kalikwani, who was a staunch supporter of the Democratic Party (DP) at the time of the 1980 elections, was arrested by state agents and detained in Luzira prison without trial from where he died on July 15, 1984.

She narrated that his body was later handed to the family and he was buried at the family home in Nakabango, Jinja, on July 19, 1984.
“Despite the unfortunate events that led to the death of our father, we thank God who enabled us to get back his body for a decent burial. It was at this time that I chose God as my personal saviour and I became a Born-Again Christian,” she said.
Mwondha added that as children of the late Kalikwani and their mother, Mummy Jehoth, they resolved to initiate a project that would benefit area residents, the reason they chose construction of a church and school, since both parents were staunch Christians and prominent teachers.
This is the first church to be opened by Lubaale since his consecration and enthronement as Bishop of Busoga diocese on December 14, 2025. He replaced Bishop Dr Samson Paul Naimanhye, who retired upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 65 years.
The ceremony was graced by several dignitaries, including retired Bishop Dr Michael Kyomya, Court of Appeal Judge Egonda Ntende, Busoga Diocesan Chancellor Emmanuel Bamwite and East Busoga Diocesan Secretary Emmanuel Mugabi who represented Bishop Paul Hannington Suubi.
Mwondha was appointed a lay canon in the Church of Uganda, Lango diocese in 2024 and was particularly assigned the role of contributing towards peace and reconciliation.
