Church institutions boost Rubaga Cathedral centenary with sh105m

During a donors’ conference held at the cathedral on Wednesday, September 17, affiliate institutions and departments of Kampala Archdiocese contributed sh105m towards preparations for the grand celebration, scheduled for October 26 this year.

As the centenary celebration of Lubaga Cathedral draws nearer, cash donations towards the function continue to grow.

During a donors’ conference held at the cathedral on Wednesday, September 17, affiliate institutions and departments of Kampala Archdiocese contributed sh105m towards preparations for the grand celebration, scheduled for October 26 this year.

The umbrella associations that made donations included the Archdiocese’s educational institutions and teachers under ACEITEKA (sh37.9m), health facilities and their staff (sh18.5m), and various departments of the Archdiocese (sh21.7m).

Individual educational institutions contributed as follows: Trinity College Nabbingo (sh15m), Uganda Martyrs SS Namugongo (sh15m), Our Lady of Good Counsel SSS Gayaza (sh6m), Uganda Martyrs Boarding PS Namugongo (sh5m), Emmanuel College Kazo (sh2m), St Joseph’s Centenary SS Ndeeba (sh2m), St John’s SS Muduuma (sh1m), Kisubi Mapeera SS (sh5m), and St Augustine’s College Wakiso (sh5m), among others.

Health facilities that donated included Nsambya Hospital (sh7m), Kisubi Hospital (sh5m), Kamwokya Christian Caring Community (sh0.5m), Naddangira Health Centre (sh1m), and Lubaga Hospital (sh10m), among several others.

Departments of the Archdiocese that contributed included Pro-life (sh1m), the Projects Office (sh3m), and the Education Department (sh2m), among others.

The function was presided over by the Archbishop of Kampala, Paul Ssemogerere, who praised the donors for their generosity and goodwill.

Eng. Pius Mugalaasi, Chairman of the Cathedral’s Centennial Organising Committee and head of the construction committee, appealed to Christians to continue supporting the cause so that all centenary projects are completed.

He said the committee is still seeking sh1bn, having already realised sh1.4bn in cash and pledges.
