Police say they have arrested a suspect following an aggravated robbery in which a businessman and his driver were attacked and robbed of shillings 15.9 million in Bugolobi, Nakawa Division in Kampala city.
The incident on December 13, 2025, happened at about 3:25pm on Old Port Bell Road opposite dfcu Bank Bugolobi branch, according to the Police.
The victims: Ndrodza Maki, a 40-year-old Congolese national, and his driver, Lutula Telesphord Muhindo, 35, had earlier exchanged $4,500 at a forex bureau in Kabalagala before driving towards Port Bell–Luzira in a white Toyota Esquire (UBQ 668T).
As the vehicle slowed on Old Port Bell Road, it was allegedly surrounded by several attackers armed with pangas, who smashed the windscreen, injured the occupants and made off with the cash.
One of the suspects fled towards Mbuya Army Barracks, dropping money along the way, which drew the attention of members of the public who pursued him.
The suspect entered the barracks but was later handed back to the Police by UPDF officers.
Police identified the suspect as Jamada Bakaki, also known as Yasin Kabuye, a 20-year-old carpenter from Kizingiza, Kawempe Division.
During interrogation, the suspect named some of his alleged accomplices as Ssentamu, Mulongo and Kayiwe, along with others still at large, police said.
The victims were treated at Bugolobi Medical Centre.
A case of aggravated robbery has been registered under Jinja Road Police Station CRB 1035/2025, while investigations continue.
