Police in Bushenyi district are investigating the death of a 24-year-old man who reportedly drowned after suffering an epileptic attack. The deceased has been identified as Hamson Nuwabiine, a resident of Ntaza 1, Ishaka Division.

According to Greater Bushenyi regional police spokesperson Apollo Tayebwa, the incident occurred on September 4, 2025, at around 5:50pm in Ryakashana cell, Nyarushambya Ward.

Nuwabiine had reportedly gone alone to bathe in a water pond near his home when he collapsed and drowned.

His family told police that he had a history of epilepsy and may have suffered a seizure while bathing.

“The scene was managed in accordance with police standards, the body was retrieved and taken to KIU Teaching Hospital in Ishaka for postmortem,” Tayebwa said.

Investigations are ongoing to confirm the exact cause of death. Police have urged families with epileptic members to exercise extra caution, especially around water sources, fires, and other risky places.

“This is a tragic reminder that people living with epilepsy need close supervision in dangerous environments,” Tayebwa said. “We appeal to families to ensure such individuals are not left alone in risky areas.”
