Army speaks out on death of Maj. Gen. Sande

The Uganda People's Defence Forces on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, confirmed the death of its Armoured Division Commander in Masaka, Major General Deus Sande, who passed away in Mpigi at around 3:45am.
Acting Director of Defence Public Information Col. Chris Magezi said Maj. Gen. Sande, "was on his way to Kampala to attend the funeral service of comrade Major General Francis Takirwa at All Saints Cathedral in Nakasero. Major General Takirwa died on Saturday, February 7, 2026."
Col. Magezi explained that, "Major General Sande developed breathing complications along the way and efforts to resuscitate him at a hospital facility in Mpigi failed."
He said the exact cause of death will be ascertained later.
"We extend our condolences to his family, relatives, and friends," Col. Magezi added.
