300 Rukungiri vulnerable people receive mattresses

RUKUNGIRI - Over 300 mattresses were given to different vulnerable people associated with different groups in Rukungiri district.

Among the vulnerable groups are the elderly, boboda riders, the ghettos, salon workers and people with disabilities.

The mattresses were given by Boona Bageigahare Kyekundire Group as a pledge fulfilment to the members.

The distribution exercise was supervised by the presidential advisor on agriculture, Peace Rugambwa.

Rugambwa, who is also the chairperson of the Boona Bageigahare Kyekundire Group in South Western Uganda, appealed to the beneficiaries not to sell the mattresses but use them for the comfort of their families.

The distribution exercise took place at Mandela Rwambara play grounds in Rukungiri district on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.

She asked the residents of Rukungiri to embrace the government programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, Youth Livelihood programme and others.

Rugambwa informed the audience that President Yoweri Museveni is committed to fulfilling pledges made to the people of western Uganda.

She said the Opposition politicians are using unmet pledges by the government to de-campaign the National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential flagbearer and NRM Parliamentarian flagbearers.

The presidential advisor was accompanied by the members of Team Peace Rugambwa and members of Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU),  headed by the Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

The teams are campaigning for candidate Museveni to be elected in the 2026 general elections.

They are canvassing for the votes for candidate Museveni and NRM flagbearers ahead of his campaign trail in western region.

Beneficiaries speak out

Beatrice Busingye said she will use the mattress for her children, as the one they have been using is worn out.

Robina Kamuteka, 75, was delighted to receive a mattress, saying she will enjoy her sleep with a new mattress.

Medard Tumuhairwe thanked the group chairperson for fulfilling the pledge.
