1,675 women raped last year: Church, govt decry rising cases

The report indicated that 1,675 female adults were victims of rape last year, a rise from 1,667 cases reported in 2024. Government officials, the Church and women activists described the rising rape figures as a setback to Uganda’s push for women emancipation.

A total of 10,492 cases of defilement were reported to the Police last year compared to 12,312 cases reported in 2024, indicating a decrease of 14.8%. Aggravated defilement cases were 3,473 compared to 4,072 cases reported in 2024.
