At the heart of the ongoing Bride and Groom expo stands a familiar face, Prudence Ukkonika, who is the chief executive officer of K-Roma Ltd, the company behind Bella Wine and the natural hibiscus drink.
To Ukkonika, the expo isn’t just another exhibition. It is a celebration of partnership, perseverance and purpose.
“I feel so proud to be part of the Bride and Groom Expo for all the 16 years it has been in existence,” she said, while beaming with a sense of fulfillment.
“This year is even more special; I’m celebrating 25 years in business, 45 years of marriage and 70 years of life. It has truly been worth it,” Ukkonika said.
For Ukkonika, the expo is not just a platform to sell. It is a stage to inspire. Having traveled the world, she has seen firsthand the global power of Vision Group’s media reach and how the expo connects Ugandans everywhere.
“Wherever I go, I see Vision Group. Its digital platforms keep us in touch with what is happening in Uganda, and that matters. If this expo wasn’t worth it, we wouldn’t be here today,” she said.
Her message to first-time exhibitors is simple: show up every day, and show up with quality.
“This expo is not about fake products. Vision Group wouldn’t allow it. We have been here from day one. If Bella Wine wasn’t authentic, how could we be part of this for 16 years?”
Bella Wine, once a local novelty, now boasts awards from Italy and continues to make waves internationally.
Ukkonika proudly champions it not just as a product, but as proof that Ugandan craftsmanship can shine on the global stage.
“Wine perhaps may not be part of our traditional culture, but we have made something uniquely Ugandan, and it competes with the best. Wine can be made from any fruit; it’s about understanding your product and packaging it well.”
She urged Ugandans, especially those planning weddings, to rethink the endless cycle of planning meetings and instead walk through the expo to find trusted vendors under one roof.
“Why waste time in wedding meetings with people who aren’t experts?” she asked.
“Come to the expo; you will find gowns, drinks, cakes, décor, everything you need, and all of it authentic.”
For Ukkonika, authenticity is non-negotiable. She called on vendors to bring their best, to focus on research, innovation, and presentation.
“Ugandans are smart. They want quality. I don’t want to see cakes falling apart when it’s time to cut them. We have the talent. We just need to keep it real.”
Her passion for local business is deep, and her advice for young exhibitors is rooted in her own journey.
“Hold on to God, and then to Vision Group’s Bride & Groom Expo,” she said with a smile. “You won’t regret it.”
Fiona Tamale, Vision Group’s Events Manager, echoed Ukkonika’s optimism.
“It will be an unforgettable experience! Expect a well-organised and engaging event.”
This year’s expo is sponsored by Pepsi under Crown Beverages, The Looks Bespoke, and Bella Wine, in partnership with Entikko Safari Lodge, Café Javas, Roke Telkom, Dream & Dress, Fontis Residences and Hotel, and Izu Treats.
Entry is just Sh10,000 per person, and for couples and curious browsers alike, the message is clear: if it’s weddings you’re planning, this is the only place to be.
