HOIMA - Rotary clubs working with partners have donated lifesaving medical equipment worth sh190 million to seven health facilities in Hoima district.

The assortment of equipment was delivered and commissioned at a function held at Kigorobya Health Centre IV.

The donated equipment includes incubators, oxygen concentrators, adult and infant weighing scales, infant warmer, neonatal digital weighing scales, delivery instruments and mattresses.

Hoima district health officer Dr Lawrence Tumusiime said the donated equipment will provide a lifeline for mothers and babies, adding that more such is needed to serve the growing population.

Hoima CAO Emmanuel Ssempala commended fellow Rotarians for considering Hoima district for this noble cause.

Hillary Tumusiime, the secretary for social services, said that the donation has come at the right time when the district is faced with pressure and increasing demand for health services from people from outside the district and from Democratic Republic of Congo.

He said the district will continue to work and support development partners to uplift health services.

Catherine Murungi, the president of Rotary Club of Hoima Kitara, said the delivered equipment will help the health facilities to better serve the women who visit them for delivery.

"As a club, we have been at the forefront of promoting maternal health in Hoima, and I am happy that we are partnering with Hoima district to support our mothers and children," she said.

Xavier Ssentamu, the Past Assistant Governor for Rotary District 9213, said Rotary is implementing projects which have a direct benefit and impact on lives in communities.

He urged Hoima district to use the donated equipment to service people equally and keep them in good shape.

"We partnered with the Rotary Clubs of Hoima, Wakiso, Nansana and Kasubi and also brought on board international partners to ensure that we get this equipment, which we have delivered to health facilities in Hoima," said Ssentamu.
