KAMPALA - Police say they are hunting for a shamba boy who disappeared with his boss’s six-year-old son.
Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) spokesperson Racheal Kawala on Sunday, December 14, 2025, identified the suspect as David Muchunguzi, a resident of Kampala city's Kawempe division.
“The Kira Road Divisional Police are actively investigating an alleged kidnapping that occurred on December 12, 2025, at about 4:00 pm. The victim is Abraham Mpirwe Tumwesigye, a 6-year-old minor,” Kawala said.
“It is alleged that on December 12, 2025, at around 4:00pm in Ddungu Zone, Kawempe Division, Kampala District, Muchunguzi, who was employed as a shamba boy by Dr Tumwesigye Emmanuel, left with the victim, Tumwesigye, the son of Tumwesigye, to an unknown destination and did not return,” Kawala says in the statement.
She adds that a case of kidnapping was reported at Universal Police Post, and relevant statements have been obtained.
“Efforts to arrest the suspect are ongoing, and investigations continue. The public is urged to share any information regarding the whereabouts of the suspect or the victim with the Police to aid investigations and the safe recovery of the child,” Kawala said.
In July last year, the Police raised alarm over a troubling increase in child kidnappings, with recent cases requiring the urgent need for public vigilance.
Deputy KMP spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, while addressing the media, said many of these kidnappings are believed to be motivated by ransom demands or ritualistic purposes.
One such incident involved the kidnapping of a two-year-old girl, Ronah Ayanza, from Ntunda village in Mukono district. The alleged kidnapper, 24-year-old Alyosious Kakande, a bodaboda rider and local resident, was apprehended at Mpata trading centre shortly after the abduction.
Owoyesigyire said Kakande targeted the child, believing her mother, who works in Dubai, would be able to pay a ransom. Fortunately, the child was recovered unharmed, and Kakande was arrested.
Last year, Police detained eight individuals linked to the kidnapping and murder of two juveniles in the greater Masaka area.
