KAMPALA - Hundreds of children from the various parishes of Kampala Catholic Archdiocese have made a pilgrimage of faith to Rubaga Cathedral to celebrate 100 years of its opening and dedication.

The Pontifical Mass at 10:00am on Sunday, October 19, 2025, was presided over by Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere, together with the archdiocese pastoral co-ordinator Fr. Dr. Ambrose Bwangatto, cathedral administrator Fr Achilles Mayanja, and a number of other priests.

Children from schools, including Uganda Martyrs PS Namugongo, Mugwanya Preparatory School Kabojja, Kiziba PS and Canossa St. Joseph PS Lweza took active participation in the mass.

They led the singing and the offertory procession. They also took the readings and gave the commentary.

During the same mass, the children also commemorated World Mission Sunday, on which Catholics all over the world renew their missionary commitment.

Delivering his homily during Mass, Archbishop Ssemogerere encouraged children to participate in the evangelising mission of the Church by proclaiming the gospel in their words and actions.

“All of us Christians, including you, the children, are agents of evangelisation. So, I encourage you to pray. Join the missionary movements, such as the Xaverian Movement, Scouting, Legion of Mary, Bannakizito, and others.”

The function also attracted children from the Eritrean communities.

At the end of mass, the children staged a march past before Ssemogerere and Fr. Ambrose Bwangatto, after which they were served lunch.
