Gulu City was painted red this Valentine’s Day as the digital pulse of Radio Rupiny and Wan Luo TV moved from the screen to the red carpet. What began as whispered confessions on the Confession Show culminated in a high-energy Love Gala at the Golden Peace Hotel.
The event was more than a dinner. It was a vibrant celebration of the deep cultural and romantic bonds within the Acholi community.
A highly competitive selection process
The journey to the red carpet began on the airwaves. Felix Ochola, the popular host of the Confession Show on Radio Rupiny, was tasked with identifying participating couples. The response was overwhelming, with more than 300 couples applying within days of the announcement.

Due to the high demand, management narrowed the list to 25 selected couples. The guest list notably included success stories, couples who met, reconciled or even proposed through the Radio Rupiny confession programme, highlighting the station’s significant influence on local relationships.
Musical magic and ‘Mara’ fever
When the couples arrived at the Golden Peace Hotel, the atmosphere quickly turned celebratory. The hall resonated with popular love ballads, and the energy reached its peak when Kuchi Classic, a household name in Northern Uganda, took to the stage.
He performed his hit songs “Mara” and “Kura”, both widely regarded as regional love anthems. The couples did not remain seated. They filled the dance floor with excitement, celebrating their relationships to the live rhythms of Acholi musical talent.

Comedy meets digital culture
Humour was central to the evening’s programme. The organisers invited Abokalam, a TikTok sensation known across Northern Uganda for his sharp wit and ability to transform trending local online content into comedy.
He kept the audience entertained throughout the night. By bringing a digital personality to a physical stage, the organisers ensured the event remained contemporary and connected to current cultural trends.
The behind-the-scenes role of Patience Giramiya
As the music played and the evening unfolded, the smooth execution of the event was coordinated by Patience Giramiya, Promotions Officer for the media houses. She oversaw logistics and ensured that each of the 25 couples felt valued.

Her responsibilities extended beyond planning. She remained actively involved throughout the night, coordinating service and ensuring that photographers captured memorable moments. Her intention was to allow couples to focus on each other without distraction.
"Our goal wasn't just to host a party; it was to create a space where love feels safe, celebrated, and truly special for every couple we hosted”, said Giramiya.
Strategic partnership with Golden Peace Hotel
The event’s success was supported by collaboration with the Golden Peace Hotel management. The venue offered a refined and private setting, contributing to the overall experience.
Robert Okello, a member of the hotel’s top management, commended Vision Group for the initiative. He observed that such events strengthen community spirit and expressed hope that the partnership would become a regular feature on Gulu’s social calendar.
The legacy of the Confession brand
Felix Ochola, host of the Confession Show, expressed surprise at the level of public interest. "We were overwhelmed," he admitted.

For the 25 couples present, the evening was memorable. For the many who could not attend, it reinforced the impact of local media in shaping personal lives.
Strengthening the bonds of the Acholi community
The 2026 Valentine’s Gala went beyond celebration. It demonstrated how local media can influence and strengthen private relationships within its audience. By transitioning from broadcast platforms to a physical gathering in Gulu City, Radio Rupiny and Wan Luo TV reaffirmed their role as active community participants.
For the 25 couples who marked the occasion together, 14 February 2026 will remain a cherished milestone in their love stories.
