Kampala’s nightlife is in mourning following the death of renowned DJ Ciza, who was laid to rest on Monday, January 26, 2026, the same day he would have marked his birthday.

Born Seth Mwalye on January 26, 1992, DJ Ciza passed away on January 24, 2026, at the age of 33, after a period of ill health. Sources close to the family indicated that he had been battling liver-related complications, a struggle compounded by emotional distress following the recent passing of his father barely a month earlier.

DJ Ciza was buried in Shibanga village, Manafwa District, Mbale, in Eastern Uganda, bringing to a close a life that had left a deep and lasting imprint on Uganda’s entertainment scene.

Widely known for his creative mixes, DJ Ciza built a powerful brand by blending local Ugandan sounds and global hits into sets that resonated with diverse audiences. His ability to read crowds and curate unforgettable musical experiences earned him a loyal following.

He became a household name during the COVID-19 lockdown period, with his online and recorded sets, further cementing his relevance at a time when the entertainment industry faced disruption.

Beyond nightlife performances at some of Kampala’s most popular hangouts, DJ Ciza was deeply invested in the growth of the music industry. He was known for championing emerging talent, giving several young and raw artists, including Cosign, their first meaningful exposure.

DJ Ciza’s name is inseparable from “Jam Rock Thursdays” at the defunct Valhalla in Wandegeya, a reggae night he co-hosted alongside Naselow. The weekly event grew into one of Kampala’s most iconic nightlife fixtures.

By August 2019, Jam Rock Thursdays had marked seven years of uninterrupted influence. Supported by dance crews such as Partypipo Uganda, the night shaped tastes, nurtured talent and defined an era in Kampala’s nightlife.

DJ Ciza’s former school friends paid tribute through the Kiira College Butiki Old Boys Association (KICOBA), describing him as an old boy who “carried his craft with pride and his roots with honour.” He attended Kiira College Butiki between 2004 and 2007.

Fans, fellow DJs, artists and promoters have since flooded social media with tributes, remembering him as humble, hardworking and generous.

In a family statement, the late DJ’s relatives described him as a beloved son, brother and friend whose life touched many. Body viewing was held on Sunday at Kulambiro Ring Road, before his final send-off the following day.
