ROKO named contractor of the year at UNABSEC Awards
Commenting on the award, ROKO chairperson and managing director Mark Koehler said the recognition reflects the company’s long-standing commitment to quality and professionalism in Uganda’s infrastructure sector.

KAMPALA - ROKO Construction Ltd has been named Contractor of the Year by the Uganda National Association of Builders, Suppliers and Engineering Contractors (UNABSEC).
The awards were held under the theme: Building Resilient and Sustainable Construction Businesses for Uganda’s Future, on December 12, 2025, at the Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala.
Other winners were:
1. The Construction Client of the Year Award went to Innovation Africa
2. The Construction Supplier of the Year Award went to Steel and Tube Industries Ltd
3. The Sponsor of the Year Award goes to DOTT Services Ltd
4. The Construction Financier of the Year Award went to KCB Bank Ltd
5. The Woman in Construction Award went to Christine Kyarimpa
The UNABSEC Construction Awards 2025, officially known as the Uganda Construction Excellence Awards (UCEA) 2025, are an initiative of UNABSEC aimed at recognising outstanding performance within Uganda’s construction industry.
The awards celebrate excellence in innovation, professionalism, leadership, quality, customer satisfaction, and sustainable construction practices.
The UCEA platform brings together industry leaders, emerging professionals, and key stakeholders to acknowledge organisations and individuals who are shaping Uganda’s infrastructure development.
UNABSEC, formerly the Uganda National Association of Building and Civil Engineering Contractors (UNABCEC), is a non-profit, member-driven national trade association representing over 457 registered contractors and construction-related companies.
Commenting on the award, ROKO chairperson and managing director Mark Koehler said the recognition reflects the company’s long-standing commitment to quality and professionalism in Uganda’s infrastructure sector.
“This award is a strong encouragement to our teams across all levels of the company. Delivering quality projects has always been central to ROKO’s approach,” Koehler said.
“Quality is embedded in how we work. We place great emphasis on careful planning, monitoring, analysis, and continuous improvement, all aligned with international standards,” he said.
Koehler added that the company is steadily positioning itself to undertake larger and more complex infrastructure projects in the coming year.
“Our focus remains on delivering reliable, high-quality infrastructure that meets our clients’ expectations and contributes positively to Uganda’s development,” he said.
He also noted that ROKO’s ability to deliver consistently is supported by its strong internal capacity.
“The company is largely self-sufficient across most construction disciplines, with a strong emphasis on training technicians and craftsmen to achieve exceptionally high standards of workmanship.”
In 2025, ROKO successfully handed over several major national projects, including the Uganda Hotel and Tourism Training Institute (UHTTI) in Jinja and the new finance ministry headquarters.
In addition, work on other significant infrastructure projects progress well. Construction activities at Parliament and the National Planning Authority (Planning House) have advanced steadily and are now entering critical phases of execution.
Together, these projects reflect ROKO Construction Ltd's ongoing contribution to the development of Uganda’s national infrastructure across multiple sectors.
