The Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) has commended Excel Insurance for developing a WhatsApp-based Digital Platform for easing acquisition of Motor Third Party as Uganda switches to digital stickers.
Speaking during a media launch on Thursday, November 14, in Kampala, Stephen Kaddu, the manager of supervision at IRA underscored the need for more innovations that make insurance products accessible and convenient.
He described Excel Insurance Company Limited's partnership with Service Cops to unveil the Excel WhatsApp Bot, a digital insurance innovation designed to make insurance services faster, simpler, and more accessible for Ugandans, as a milestone for the industry.
“In October this year, we switched to digital stickers, and as the regulator, we want to laud Excel Insurance for taking a bold step to develop this solution. We are confident it will eliminate all fake stickers that have been on the increase in the market,” Kaddu noted.
He explained that the IRA, in partnership with other government agencies like the Uganda Police and the Ministry of Works and Transport, is in sync with the switch to digital, adding that traffic police have already been trained and equipped with the necessary equipment.
Paul Muwanga, the Manager at Excel Insurance, disclosed that the Excel WhatsApp Bot allows customers to purchase insurance directly via WhatsApp, pay instantly through mobile money, and receive their insurance documentation immediately with no paperwork, no queues, and access to full customer support.
This innovation highlights Excel Insurance’s commitment to customer convenience and Service Cops’ role as a leading fintech partner driving digital transformation in Uganda’s financial and insurance sectors.
“At Excel Insurance, we are committed to making insurance simple and accessible for everyone. The Excel WhatsApp Bot brings insurance to people’s fingertips, allowing customers to buy and receive coverage in minutes,” Muwanga explained.
The initial rollout focuses on Motor Third-Party Insurance, with plans to expand to other products in the near future.
By simplifying access to essential insurance services, the Excel WhatsApp Bot bridges the gap between technology and protection, empowering motorists to get insured anywhere, anytime, explains Managing Director Service Cops, Mathias Kamugasho.
“Our collaboration with Excel Insurance shows how fintech can power digital access to insurance services. We’re proud to be part of a solution that enhances convenience and trust for every Ugandan customer.”
