Cocoa becomes second leading agricultural export to coffee

Cocoa exports began at $44.27m (Sh161.6b) in December 2024 and rose sharply to $67.36m (Sh245.9b) in January, $68.7m (Sh250.8b) in February, and $67.42m (Sh246.1b) in March.

The data underlines cocoa’s sensitivity to global price movements and its growing importance to Uganda’s foreign exchange earnings.

KAMPALA - Cocoa beans earned $621.1m (about Sh2.27 trillion) between December 2024 and November 2025, making the crop the country’s second leading agricultural export after coffee.
