A sweet honeymoon does not have to be expensive or even abroad. In a country gifted by nature like Uganda, there are a variety of hideouts where you can have a memorable honeymoon at an affordable cost.
At the Bride and Groom expo which is going on at the Uganda Manufacturers’ Association (UMA) showground in Lugogo, Kampala, resorts, hotels and eco-lodges have offered Uganda’s pocket-friendly honeymoon packages. The expo is on this weekend (June 27-29) and the entrance fee is sh10,000.
For example, on the serene shores of Lake Victoria near Kampala sits Aquarius Kigo Resort Lake Victoria which gives honeymooners a chance to view the blue lake and enjoy its cool breeze, Rebecca Nankya, one of the staff members, says. Its offers are pocket-friendly.
For instance, a room goes for $160 (sh590,000). This comes with a bed and breakfast, swimming, gym, sauna and a 10% discount on all spa activities, Nankya says.
Aquarius Kigo Resort is located next to Mirembe Villas, Kigo Prisons Road in Wakiso district. It is less 16km away from the Kampala city centre.
Entiko Safari Lodge in Buliisa
At Entiko Safari Lodge in Buliisa district near Lake Albert, Sonia Nali, the reservation manager, says honeymoon packages can be tailored to the couple’s preference.
A double or twin room is charged US $489 (sh1,757, 000) per night and this comes with: fruit basket, bottle of wine, sauna, swimming pool and gym. Anything beyond that is added based on the couple’s preferences.
The Lodge is located in Murchison Falls, 54km from Masindi town. For early risers, Entiko has a beautiful sunrise, starting 6:30am to about 7:00am.
“It is always an amazing experience for honeymooners and ordinary couples,” Nali says.
In addition, there is a bonfire experience for the evening, accompanied with cultural performances as you take your evening tea or dinner before bedtime.
The nature walk at Entiko’s environs is quite relaxing and for people interested in hiking, there is more. The lodge has one of the best masseuses and everyone who has experienced her massage has loved it.
Kyobe Safari Lodge
Kyobe Safari Lodge is under Marasa Africa, which also operates other luxury lodges: Para Safari Lodge, Mweya Safari Lodge and the five-star in Bwindo, Bahama.
Grace Baiga, the sales manager at Marasa Africa, says what sets the Lodge apart is the amazing nature walk that takes about one-and-a-half hours where couples get to experience unique intimate moments while watching wild animals near Karuma Falls on River Nile.
Baiga says the nature walk is therapeutical, and emotionally energising and drives the intimacy to its climax with the sound of River Nile rapids in the background. Not to forget are the beautiful sunsets and sunrises.
Miika Eco Resort Hotel Hoima
At Miika Eco Resort Hotel Hoima, couples will also enjoy a nature walk that involves watching various species of primates, Herbert Kaliisa Araali, the director, says.
“Miika ECO Resort offers full board accommodation with breakfast, lunch, candle-lit dinner, Spa services, and swimming. Here is the breakdown of rates: Deluxe room will cost you sh550,000, you will pay sh650,000 for the Executive room and for the VIP room will part with sh950,000 and you will be entitled to a fruit basket and bottle of wine.”
Kaliisa says the hotel’s location within a forest offers guests a perfect place to unwind after hectic pre-wedding activities. It also has a spa, sauna and massage.
The resort is located 3km from Hoima city on Butyaba Road.
