Uganda’s finance ministry has signed a memorandum of understanding with the governor of the Japan Bank for International Co-operation (JBIC) to strengthen financial co-operation between the two countries.
This was during the recent 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama, Japan.
Uganda’s planning state minister, Amos Lugolobi, signed on behalf of Uganda, while Governor Nobumitsu Hyashi signed on behalf of Japan.

Information from the finance ministry indicates that the MOU will strengthen co-operation between the two countries, mainly on environmental protection, social sustainability, while structuring government projects.
In addition, the MOU, other key considerations under the financial co-operation are access to finances to procure road equipment. Since 2017, over 1 000 road equipment items have been procured using the JBIC loan.
On the sidelines of the TICAD9 side event organised by the African Development Bank and Japan External Trade Organisation, Lugoloobi listed key investment opportunities in Uganda, including commercial agriculture and agroprocessing, manufacturing using the space in Uganda’s Industrial parks, tourism infrastructure & mining, among others.
