Minister Nakadama urges farmers, producers and exporters to embrace organic

Several Ugandans have now adopted the use of organic products, which has led to the growth of more actors in the sector, the second deputy Prime Minister and Minister without Portfolio, Lukia Nakadama, has said.

Nakadama says the Government appreciates the importance of organic agriculture in meeting the social, economic and environmental goals of the citizens, adding that it is for this reason that it has approved the National Organic Agriculture Policy 2019.

She assured farmers that Cabinet will push for the National Organic Agriculture Policy 2019 to be enacted into law.

She made the remarks while officiating at the fourth National Agricultural Week Exhibition and the 25th anniversary of the National Organic Agricultural Movement (NOGAMU) at the Hotel Africana on November 5, 2025.

“Since 2019, the Government has noted significant growth in the number of certified organic products, value-added products, organic inputs manufacturers and market,” Nakadama said.

She revealed that Uganda has some of the world’s well-managed organic, regenerative and agroecology farms coupled with excellent innovations such as the Kebera for testing chemical residues in organic products.


Agriculture state minister Fred Bwino Kyakulaga told farmers that the global organic demand has expanded and that there is demand for the products locally and internationally.

He said that the only challenge is the impending growth of the products, adding that there is still a gap because of limited processing and high costs of certification.

Chariton Namuwoza, the president of AfroNet, also NOGAMU chief executive officer, explained that the National Organic Week 2025 has brought together exhibitors who have come to display their organic products.

We have a variety of products from all materials that are organic, ranging from food products, cosmetics and animal waste.

The Week has drawn participants form Kenya, Tanzania, Netherlands Nigeria. Madagascar, among others.

He told farmers that the organic market is increasing in Uganda, urging farmers to go organic and stop the use of artificial fertilisers.

He called on government to expedite the National Organic Agriculture Policy 2019 into law.
