Dairy farming can be a lucrative venture if well-managed and properly handled. A well-managed dairy cow requires a balanced diet composed of clean and adequate drinking water, proteins, energy-giving feeds, in addition to minerals such as salt and mineral licking bricks, among others.
This should be accompanied by a water-free sleeping area, preferably fitted with a cow mattress to make the cow comfortable enough to relax and produce the required litres of milk.
These are some of the tips that Dr Jolly Kabirizi, a researcher in animal pastures and dairy breeds, shared with farmers interested in harvesting money from dairy farming.

She shared the tips on Saturday during the profitable dairy farming training session at the Harvest Money Expo that took place at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, starting from February 27-March 1 under the theme, Farming as a Business.
Kabirizi also advised farmers to look out for quality dairy breeds, manage diseases and ensure a stress-free environment for their cows.
She further demonstrated different ways of preparing dairy feed using methods such as hydroponics for maize, potato vines, hay and silage.
