Farmers in the West Nile sub-region have been tipped on early preparation of land.

Early preparation of land is associated with improved yields as the region grapples with food insecurity.

Elly Asiki, a prominent model mixed farmer in Koboko district who deals in the production of cassava, maize, beans, sunflower, coffee, and cocoa, among others, encourages farmers to plan their gardens early enough to allow them to fallow before planting.

Asiki is concerned that the majority of farmers in West Nile rush to plant at the last moment the reason the yields are poor.

Meanwhile, Tony Opio, the executive director of Mic Pa Mungu Agroecological farm in Nebbi, encourages the farmers to invest in high-value crops if they are to get maximum returns on farming.
